Music in May

Music in May returns with four weeks of free concerts at Anthem Community Park beginning Friday, May 6, with the cover band The Very Secret Service.

The City Nights Band (May 13), Young Country (May 20) and Superhero (May 27) are also slated to play from 7 to 9 p.m. on their respective Fridays.

Attendees at the free, family-friendly event are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, picnics and flashlights. Food trucks will be on-site for all performance nights to offer dining options.

As parking is limited, residents are encouraged to carpool, walk and bike to the park. Residents who drive can park in the park’s lower lot and the community center’s parking lot.

“We are so excited for this concert series to kick off the summer and we look forward to having our residents enjoy this fun, outdoor event,” said Debbie Pulido, Anthem Community Council special events manager.

Concerts take place in the Amphitheater at Anthem Community Park, located at 41703 N. Gavilan Peak Parkway. To learn more about Music in May, visit onlineatanthem.com/music-in-may

Formed in June 2019, The Very Secret Service features vocalist/guitarist Evan Berg and Grammy Award-winning drummer formerly of Superbus, Greg Jacks. This is a top 40 cover band — with a surprise.

“It’s a very unique cover band,” said Jacks, a native of France who now lives in Phoenix.

“People are very surprised that two guys can pull this off. It’s pretty cool. That’s what keeps me on track and keeps my chops up.”

Berg and Jacks also helm Penny Billionaires, an all-originals act that blends hard rock and electronica.
