McCormick Ranch to host tournament
NORTH SCOTTSDALE –  McCormick Ranch Golf Club is the site for the Fifth Annual Tracey Miner Memorial Golf Tournament May 17.

The four-person shotgun style event will benefit the Tracey Miner Memorial Fund, named in honor of the late New River resident.

Check-in is at noon, followed by a 1 p.m. tournament start and dinner on the terrace to end the day.

Summer hours in effect at Ben Avery
NORTH VALLEY – The Ben Avery Shooting Facility this week switched to its summer hours.
Beginning May 12, the new hours are as follows:

Mondays and Tuesdays –
closed

Wednesdays and Thursdays –
7 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-9:30 p.m.

Fridays and Sundays –
7 a.m.-1 p.m.

Saturdays – 7 a.m.-9:30 p.m.

“The summer hours are designed for the facility to be open during the coolest parts of the day and still give the recreational shooting community the most quality shooting times on weekends even during the hotter days of the summer months,” said Ben Avery manger Marty Hererra.

Fire ban in affect for local county parks
NORTH VALLEY – The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department this week issued its annual fire ban to 10 county parks.

Those affected include Lake Pleasant Regional Park, Cave Creek Regional Park and Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area.
“Because of (dry) conditions, the parks are initiating the fire ban a little earlier this year,” said Maricopa County Supervisor Andy Kunasek.

The ban includes the use of campfires, fire pits and charcoal grills. Gas and propane grills can still be used in designated areas.
The remaining parks affected are White Tank Mountain Regional Park, Adobe Dam Regional Park, Buckeye Hills Regional Park, Estrella Mountain Regional Park (excludes turf area), San Tan Mountain Regional Park, Usery Mountain Regional Park and McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
