Soccer teams head to Scottsdale for post-holiday event

Both the boys and girls soccer programs at Boulder Creek High School and Cactus Shadows High School will resume play following the holiday by competing in the inaugural Arizona Soccer Showcase.
The event, which includes 24 boys teams and 24 girls teams, gets under way on Tuesday at Scottsdale Sports Complex located at 8081 E. Princess Drive, on the Northeast corner of Bell and Hayden.
In the boys tournament the Boulder Creek Jaguars open play at 11 a.m. Tuesday when they square off with Santa Fe Christian. They continue pool play with a second game later that day, this time at 3 p.m., against Pinnacle. On day two of the event, Dec. 28, the
Jaguars play a 1 p.m. game against Gilbert, on Field #4 to conclude pool play.
Cactus Shadows is in Pool E, along with Servite, Ironwood Ridge and Carl Hayden. The Falcons play Servite at 3 p.m. and Carl Hayden at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and will take on Ironwood Ridge in a 7 p.m. game Dec. 28 on field four.
The quarterfinals get under way at 9 a.m., Dec. 29. The top team from each of the six pools advances along with two wildcard teams. The wildcards will be determined first by the top record in the event. The tiebreakers then go in order: goal differential, fewest goals allowed, and goals scored. If those three tiebreakers don’t settle the issue the teams
vying for the two remaining spots will go to penalty kicks.
The tournament semifinals will take place at 3 p.m. on Dec. 29 with the finals set for
1 p.m. on Dec. 30. 
On the girls side the Boulder Creek Jaguars are in Pool A with Hamilton, Iolani and Millennium.
The Jaguars play Millennium in the opening game of the event at 9 a.m. on Field #4 and then take on Iolani at 1 p.m both on Tuesday.
On Dec. 28 Boulder Creek closes pool play against Hamilton in an 11 a.m. match against Hamilton on Field #1.
Cactus Shadows is in Pool E. After squaring off with Mountain Pointe at 1 p.m. on Tuesday the Falcons play two games on Dec. 28, taking on Desert Mountain at 11 a.m. on Field #2 before taking on Williams Field at 3 p.m. on Field #4.
The quarterfinals for the girls get under way at 11 a.m. on Dec. 29. The semifinals will be at 5 p.m. on Dec. 29 with the finals at 11 a.m., Dec. 30. Those interested in keeping tabs of the action can do so by going to twitter.com/phoenix_sports.
