Daisy Mountain trains officers in animal rescue
Staff Report ~ 12/14/2011

The Daisy Mountain Fire Department offered training earlier this month in Advanced Large Animal Rescue Training (LART) in New River.
The one-day course was organized by Arizona Equine Rescue.
Officer Danny Garcia, a member of the Scottsdale Police Mounted Unit, was one of the attendees and was sponsored by the Scottsdale Saddle Club.

“We are pleased to be able to sponsor Officer Garcia once again,” Ross Libonati, president of the Scottsdale Saddle Club, said.  “It is so important to the horse community in the Valley to have a group who are trained to help our horses and other large animals in an emergency.”

One of Garcia’s responsibilities is to assist at accident scenes where a horse trailer has rolled over, injuring the horses inside or a horse or other large animal has been injured in some way.

“There are many ways that livestock seem to be able to get themselves in trouble.  This advanced training has given me the additional skills to be able to assess a situation, execute a plan and affect a successful rescue.  I am grateful to the Scottsdale Saddle Club for sponsoring me throughout this program,” Garcia said.
