MCDOT offers look at revised New River traffic plan
STAFF REPORT~ 10/5/2011
The New River/Desert Hills Community Association (NR/DHCA) is hosting a public discussion featuring MCDOT’s current New River Road Traffic Safety Study at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Crossroads Christian Fellowship.
MCDOT representatives will provide attendees with progress updates regarding the recently initiated safety study and upcoming installation of new traffic safety measures along a one-mile section of the existing two-lane “S-curve” portion of New River Road between County Road and Gibbons Road.
MCDOT has withdrawn previous plans to widen New River Road between the I-17 Frontage Road and Desert Hills Drive along with plans to eliminate the “S-curve” portion of New River Road by constructing a straight three-lane bypass.
During the meeting, MCDOT staff will also provide an overview of the draft Fig Springs Road (New River Road to 7th Avenue) Scoping Report (conceptual design plans) which evaluated potential roadway paving and drainage options. It is currently an unpaved, non-engineered road constructed entirely on private lands (no public right-of-way currently exists). Study objectives included improving the substandard roadway geometry for safety and accessibility. Proposed drainage improvements are also supposed to create all weather access.
Crossroads Christian Fellowship is located at 42425 N. New River Road in New River.
