Councilwoman Williams faces runoff election
STAFF REPORT~ 9/15/2011
The vote totals for the 2011 Mayor and City Council Election saw 144,716 ballots cast, the second highest number of ballots cast in city history. Additionally, 16,928 votes were cast at the city’s new Voting Centers, quadruple the number of votes cast at polling locations during the last citywide election in May 2008.
Despite the record numbers District 1’s seat on the city council remains undecided as a runoff will take place between Eric Frederick and incumbent Thelda Williams.
While Williams received more than 2,000 more votes than Frederick (8,015 – 5,746) she failed to earn the 50 percent of the vote plus one needed to earn the win, coming in at 49.09 percent.
Based on the results, the District 1 seat will be one of three runoff races on the election scheduled for Nov. 8:
