The National Youth Theatre Awards recognized Musical Theatre of Anthem’s performance of The Wizard of Oz with numerous honors at their fifth annual awards show earlier this month. The show earned honors for Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical.

Musical Theatre of Anthem earns recognition

Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) received three National Youth Theatre
Awards earlier this month and an additional seven nominations for
performances in their 2009-10 season.
Awards include Outstanding Ensemble for The Wizard of Oz, Outstanding
Lead Actress in a Musical (ages 13 and under) to Madeline Wessel for
her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and Outstanding Supporting
Actress in a Musical (ages 13 and under) to Hannah Long for her role
as the Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Nominations include Outstanding Lead
Actress in a Musical (ages 13 and under) to Kailyn Toussaint for her
role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Outstanding Supporting Actress
in a Musical (ages 13 and under) to Maggie Eley as the Scarecrow in
The Wizard of Oz, Peyton Wayne as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz,
Maddie Lopez as the Lion is The Wizard of Oz, and Jaci Wells as the
Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, as well as Outstanding Featured
Actress in a Musical (ages 13 and under) to Taylor Ellsworth for her
role as Clarissa in Little Women and Madeline Wessel for her role
as Young Amy in Little Women.

National Youth Theatre's Fifth Annual Awards considered more than
200 productions for the awards, including shows from more than 100
different theatres in more than 50 cities spanning 15 states. The
award winners were selected from nominations by a panel of 18 judges
and reviewers.
