Honor guard conducts fundraiser

STAFF REPORT ~ 7/20/2011

The Daisy Mountain honor guard will conduct a fundraising car wash from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on July 30 at Connolly’s Sports Grill at 27th Ave. and Carefree Highway.
The group is raising funds for its annual trip to Colorado for the annual 9/11 memorial.
Along with the memorial event in Colorado, the 10-member volunteer color guard also performs locally at such events as funerals, the annual Veteran’s Day Parade and posting the flag at high school football games.
In addition to fundraising for their travel expenses the group is looking to add equipment such as bagpipes and drums to their group. They’re also looking to purchase new uniforms.
During the four-hour car wash, in which the group will be accepting donations, Connolly’s will have happy hour prices.
Prior to the group’s trip to Colorado, on Sept. 13, the honor guard will attend a number of Sept. 11 events locally. Among the events will be ProMusica and Chorale’s concert at Community Church of Joy in Glendale, part of a national remembrance that will take place at 3 p.m.
