Power outage briefly zaps North Valley
Staff Report
~ 6/30/2010
Approximately 4,100 Arizona Public Service Company customers in north
Phoenix lost power for up to four hours Wednesday night when a transformer
malfunctioned.
The outage boundaries were Pinnacle Peak Road to the north, Union
Hills Drive to the south, 32nd Street to the west and Scottsdale Road
to the east.
Power was restored to half of the customers by 11 p.m. Wednesday,
and was fully restored by 12:30 a.m. Thursday according to APS personnel.
A problem with the transformer at a Phoenix substation caused the
outage at 8:20 p.m. APS personnel indicated that an equipment failure
caused the issue, but said it was not a weather related problem, instead
indicating that the issue was comparable to a car that needed maintenance.
APS said that in an event an extended outage is expected their personnel
will be informed and ready to share information with customers calling
in to report or inquire about the outage. They also remind customers
that they will utilize the media as a way to keep their customers
informed should an extended outage be expected.
