The Anthem Safety and Services Committee met with representatives of Arizona American Water and Daisy Mountain Fire Department last month, getting confirmation that fire hydrants on the east side of Anthem are checked regularly. Daisy Mountain Fire Department utilized the hydrant located off of Anthem Way, just north of Bella Rosa on Navigation during an April 26 house fire.

Anthem residents can take solace in knowing that in the event that
a fire ever threatens their home the fire hydrants in the community
are in good working condition.
At the May 26 Anthem Community Council Meeting Tom Johnson, the head
of the Safety and Services Committee reported that both Arizona American
Water and the Daisy Mountain Fire Department perform regular inspections
on the more than 1,000 hydrants located on the east side of Anthem.
“We’ve had some people express concern about fire hydrants as to whether
they are operable,” Johnson said. “At the meeting with Arizona American
Water (AAW) and Daisy Mountain Fire we asked for documentation on
their testing of hydrants.”
AAW owns the hydrants on the east side of Anthem and tests them annually,
also maintaining them and repairing them when needed.
According to Johnson Daisy Mountain Fire said they too regularly inspect
hydrants and that they had no issue in utilizing the unit located
off of Anthem Way, just north of Bella Rosa on Navigation during an
April 26 house fire.
Daisy Mountain’s inspections include the flushing of sediment and
then a test of the pressure reading, to make sure the hydrant is flowing
properly. After completing the test they also make sure that the hydrant
is not leaking.
Councilmember Ron Jerich offered his gratitude to Johnson for his
efforts.
“Thank you for looking into this matter,” he said. “It’s reassuring
to be able to clarify that they are working properly and that they’re
being maintained.”
Anyone that sees a leaking hydrant is asked to call John Lulewicz,
Operations Supervisors for AAW at 623-445-2462.
