Anthem soccer clubs claim gold in tourney

Both the Girl’s U10 Lightning and U12 Jaguars went 4-0 May 1-2 in the Yavapai Cup Tournament to capture the gold medals in their respective age groups.
The U10 Anthem Lightning launched an offensive assault on the competition at the Yavapai Cup, which took place May 1-2. Winning by scores of 5-1, 4-1, 6-3, and 5-2, the Lightning put together their best scoring stretch of the season. It was a tremendous way to end a 22-6-9 season. Brenna Pillsbury and Makayla Roe led the offensive explosion with six goals each. Sierra Averill added three goals while Katie Coates and Lauren Hidder both scored two goals.
In addition to anchoring the defense in goal Cara Eley also showed off her offensive skills with a goal and an assist. Olivia Landis lead the defensive effort with the help of Hannah Baptist, Abbey Castlen and Kara Connolly.
Anthem Soccer Club's U-12 girl's team also went undefeated as goals were scored by Diana Douglas, Sirina Natarajan, and Samantha Markey. Both Samantha and Sirina also had incredible saves, as they split duty as the goal keeper.
Forwards Mae Symmonds and Cassidy Sabodkin made some great crosses to the middle for the goals. Midfielders Erin Magoffie, Nicole Rocha-Turner, and Kaylene Connolly controlled the play with forward passes and being first on the ball. Sweeper, Coutney Connors, let nothing pass her in the other team's attempts to score, while Cami Wright and Hannah Berdal assisted Courtney in defense by swarming any offensive players before shots could get off.
