Anthem gathers to pay respects to civic
volunteer
Staff Report ~ 3/3/2010
The late Jerry Kowalski of Anthem will be honored during an event
set for 6:30 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Anthem School.
The free event, sponsored by Promusica, the North Valley Art Council,
Anthem Posse, the Anthem business community and the community of Anthem,
will include a light dinner as those in attendance will have the opportunity
to share their stories of Kowalski, who passed away last month after
a bout with cancer.
Kowalski was born on July 13, 1938 in Chicago. After a 36-year career
as an insurance agent for Allstate Jerry and his wife Cher moved to
Anthem in September 2003.
During that time Jerry served as a volunteer on the Maricopa County
Sherriff Officers Posse. In that capacity he patrolled for community
events, backing up deputies on emergency calls, doing vacation home
watches and helping families evacuate homes during fires and floods.
During the school year, he directed traffic at Anthem School.
Having grown up a drummer Jerry’s love of music led him to ProMusica.
He enjoyed being in the company of many fine talented people and performing
in the community concerts. He saw that Promusica has something special
to offer to Anthem families that is wholesome and good for the soul.
He also tried his hand at acting in local community theater productions.
He enjoyed the experiences and the enthusiasm of Anthem’s community
directors.
Jerry served on several Anthem Community Committees, sat on the Golden
Go Getters board, was on the financial committee at St. Rose Church,
a member of the North Valley Arts council and a member of the Knights
of Columbus.
Anthem School is located at 4120 NE Freedom Way in Anthem. Thursday’s
event is open to the public. There is no fee, but donations are welcome.
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP at 623-551-3733.
