Public hearing examines future of DAMS
Staff Report ~ 3/3/2010

A public hearing will give the community an opportunity to voice their thoughts on the possible closure of Desert Arroyo Middle School in Cave Creek at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Governing Board Room, at 33016 North 60th St.
The Board, by a 3-2 margin, voted to start the timeline for the possible closure of Desert Arroyo Middle School on Jan. 26.
Severe budget issues have brought about closing DAMS as a possible solution. The projected savings by closing the school, at 33401 N. 56th St. in Scottsdale, is estimated at $500,000.
The issue was brought up last year before being voted down by the board.
Following Tuesday’s meeting the Governing Board will have the vote on the possible closure at their April 13 meeting. All meetings take place at 33016 North 60th St.
If the Board votes to close the school all seventh and eight grade students would attend Sonoran Trails Middle School and all sixth grade students would remain at their current elementary school for the 2010-2011 school year.
