Art day supports artists in residence program

STAFF REPORT~ 2/22/2012

An Art Tastic Day, headlined by a Fine Art Exhibition and Sale is set for 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center. “An Art Tastic Day is for all ages, preschool to ninety,” said event organizer Elaine Adrian from the Desert Foothills Community Education program. “There is absolutely something for everyone. It’s an obvious choice for parents and grandparents.” Art collectors and home designers can pick up an original work of fine art by professional artists who are current or retired art teachers from the Cave Creek Unified School District. Gift-seekers can find an assortment of charming and unique pieces at reasonable prices, from art, jewelry, note cards and calendars to collectible teddy bears. Ten percent of sales go to help support the Artists in Residence Program at Desert Foothills Community Education. Lunch is available from Bad Donkey while attendees will get the chance to do some painting themselves or be entertained by the Cactus Shadows High School Shadowbox Players and the Jokers Improv. The day’s events also will include the painting of a gigantic mural to the classical music of “Peter and the Wolf” and “Carnival of Animals;” and costumed Story Tellers reading from Dr. Seuss, children’s books on horses, “101 Dalmatians,” and the popular “Hank the Cow Dog.” hankthecowdog.com/ A creative hands-on activity for children and adults at An Art Tastic Day is the “Paint a Pot” area where you can decorate a clay pot with acrylic paints and plant a seasonal flower. The $5 “Paint a Pot” activity fee helps to support the Artists in Residence Program. There will be an informational table for a sneak peak of the Desert Foothills Community Education Summer Programs. DFCE will be offering a full catalogue of inspiring, engaging, creative, athletic, and educational classes and programs, including the unique STEAM Institute (new this year).
