Stolen vehicle crashes, ejects driver and passenger in North Phoenix

PHOENIX – On February 6, a driver in a reported stolen vehicle out of Avondale allegedly fled from police, and eventually crashed ejecting himself and a passenger near 7th Street and Deer Valley Road.

Phoenix Police say officers first spotted the stolen vehicle near 19th and Southern avenues around 1 p.m., and when officers tried stopping the 19-year-old driver, who has not been identified at the time, he fled.

Allegedly the driver fled north on the Interstate 17, but the responding police officers did not pursue him on the highway, however a Phoenix Police Department helicopter continued to follow the car as it traveled towards the North Valley.

Troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly fled from them also.  The car, which was carrying four other unidentified passengers from the ages 16 to 20, made his way into North Phoenix where he lost control and crashed; ejecting himself and one other passenger, who is only being identified as a 17-year-old female at this time, according to police.

The driver and the five occupants were taken to local hospitals for medical care.  Currently, the driver and one passenger remain in critical condition. This case is still under investigation.
