Pioneer Village celebrates statehood

Pioneer Living History Village is planning a special statehood day celebration Saturday and Sunday as Arizona celebrates the 98th anniversary of becoming the United States’ 48th state on Feb. 14, 1912.
The venue, located just west of I-17 at exit 225, which is home to many historic buildings, will have a series of events to commemorate the occasion.
The village opens at 9 a.m. both days. Among the events scheduled Saturday is a parade, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by the playing of the Star Spangled Banner at 10 a.m. and the reading of the statehood proclamation by the descendent of Wyatt Earp.
Civil War and World War II battle reenactments will take place as will performances by the Southwest Legends Gunfighters.
Throughout the weekend the inaugural Pioneer Arizona Territorial Gun Show also will take place on the grounds offering an opportunity for visitors to sell, buy or trade weaponry used during the Civil War through World War I. Vendor tables are available for $30.
There will be a tea party at the Victorian House complete with a 1800s fashion show and an opportunity to pan for gold.
Live music will be performed throughout the weekend. Free trolley service will be available allowing visitors to see all the historic buildings on the 90 plus acre property.
Entry to the park is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for children and vets and free for ages 5 and under.
