Peoria Holds Life-Saving Award Ceremony

Peoria – On January 30, the Peoria Fire Department honored two nurses and Orange Theory Fitness with an award ceremony at fire station 191 for saving a man who collapsed while working out. The victim, staff from Abrazo Arrowhead Hospital, city leadership and the fire crew were all there to honor the heroes.

On December 14, 53-year-old, Warren Raisanen, was riding a stationary bike at Orange Theory Fitness in Peoria when he collapsed and became unresponsive. Two bystanders, Suzanne Chang and Morgan Morrow, both nurses, rushed to his aid and began rescue breaths and chest compressions.

Staff at Orange Theory Fitness grabbed the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) it had on site and rushed it to the victim where the two nurses delivered an electrical shock. After one more round of CPR he started breathing on his own. He quickly recovered and was alert and talking by the time he was in the ambulance.

“Early bystander CPR and defibrillation is a key to survival in a cardiac emergency,” said Peoria Fire Chief, Bobby Ruiz at the award ceremony.
