Canyon Springs students receive healthy
pep rally
Staff Report ~ 1/20/2010
Big Red, The Arizona Cardinals mascot, has to hope that at least one
of his two pep rallies on Friday will result in a positive outcome.
Hours after the Cardinals bird was at the airport to send off the
local NFL team, which was headed to New Orleans for the second round
of the NFC playoffs, he was in Anthem.
Thanks to Canyon Springs Elementary cafeteria manager Gail Kurtz,
who ordered the kits for Fuel Up to Play 60 program, personnel from
the National Dairy Council along with Big Red were on the campus,
located at 42901 North 45th Drive in Anthem.
Their message, delivered to 50 kindergarten through second grade students,
was one stressing the importance of healthy eating habits and getting
60 minutes of physical activity a day.
As part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, one that was designed in
partnership between the National Dairy Council and the NFL, students
across the country learn about the health pyramid and what type of
foods benefit their growing bodies. They also are encouraged that
regardless of what their interest is that it is vitally important
to get exercise every day.
The program concluded with the students getting an activity book detailing
some tips on being healthy, a snack and an opportunity to get their
picture taken with Big Red.
