Desert Mountain students unharmed in accident
Staff Report ~ 1/20/2010

A Deer Valley Unified school bus transporting students to Desert Mountain Elementary was rear ended in a minor fender bender Wednesday morning on its way to the Desert Hills school.

The bus, which was stopped at an intersection, was struck by another vehicle at 7:39 a.m. at 7th St. and Blue Eagle Lane.

None of the 15 students on board were injured. The sheriff’s department was called and the paramedics responded.

Daisy Mountain Fire Marshal Phillip Dyer said the incident, which diverted traffic in the area, was of the most minor variety.

“We estimated the vehicle was going perhaps 4 or 5 miles per hour,” he said. “The passenger vehicle took some damage because it’s obviously much lower than the bus, but nobody was hurt. In fact many of the students weren’t even aware the bus had been hit. They were more concerned about being late for school.”

The paramedics released the students, who were then transported on another bus to school after each of their parents had been contacted.

Another bus was brought in to finish the pick-up route.

The driver of the other vehicle was checked out by EMT personnel and left the scene after being picked up by a family member.
